Gerard Xuriguera visits Cosmos- Atelier 71
A week-long educational printmaking workshop titled “Soul-Soil-Symbol” was recently held at Cosmos Centre 71 in Malibagh. Printmakers Kalidas Karmakar and Nagarbashi Barman were the conductors of the workshop, with material support from Samdani Art Foundation.
Ten emerging printmakers, who are studying in the University of Dhaka and University of Development Alternative (UODA), took part in the workshop. The workshop was a part of the recently held Dhaka Art Summit (April 12-15).
Renowned French art historian and critic, Gerard Xuriguera, visited Gallery Cosmos and the printmaking studio Cosmos-Atelier 71 on the closing day of the workshop. He was visiting Dhaka in the wake of the Dhaka Art Summit. He was the special guest on the closing day of the Dhaka Art Summit.
Xuriguera handed out certificates to the participating printmakers of Cosmos- Atelier 71. Later, a discussion was arranged between the veteran critic and the promising printmakers where they exchanged views on contemporary arts as well the contemporary art scene of Dhaka.
Ambassador of Switzerland to Bangladesh Dr. Urs Hareen; president of Bangladesh Enterprise Institute Farooq Sobhan; Nadia Samdani, director, Samdani Art Foundation; former ambassador Tufail K Haidar and Tehmina Enayet, director Cosmos Group; and Enayetullah Khan, chairman of the Cosmos Atelier and editor in chief of UNB, among others, attended the programme.
Gerard Xuriguera is revered in the international art scene for the various texts on artistic criticism which he has published, some of them considered to be works of iconic importance in the study of contemporary art and sculpture. He has curated over 700 exhibitions throughout the world.
